Humphrey Kariuki statement 9 February 2021

We are pleased with the decision by the court today to agree with our request to set firm dates for a hearing.

We are pleased with the decision by the court today to agree with our request to set firm dates for a hearing in Case No. CR 1342 of 2019 which is now scheduled for 28, 29 and 30 April. This is a clear message to the Prosecution, which has failed to produce evidence for 18 months now, that it can no longer continue to delay and try to deny me justice.

The allegations against me, as I have said throughout this farcical process, are entirely unfounded. I am a law-abiding citizen.

Today’s decision highlights that our court system remains independent and strong. This is a signal to African entrepreneurs and investors – you are protected by the law and that Kenya is open for business. We must encourage African investment; not discourage it.

I will continue to work towards my vision to empower African people, to unlock value in the Kenyan economy and across the continent, and to encourage other African investors to invest at home in Africa. I will continue to work with trusted partners, investors and local communities to build a better future.
